Welcome to our fifth annual Playwrights’ Festival!
Our first Playwrights’ Festival was in March of 2021. We performed 4 plays written by Hillside Middle School students virtually. In the Fall of 2022 we performed 7 new plays, in 2023 11 new plays, and last year 14 new plays at McAllister Hall with great success. We are very excited this year to showcase new plays from Central High School students as well!
Over the last 6 weeks, 26 students have been writing scenes and plays, developing their skills in dialogue, character development, conflict and plot structure. Our playwrights were given the challenge of writing plays where the characters had to be inanimate objects or animals. We will be presenting 18 of these plays as staged readings, directed by Hillside and Central students. We encourage you to immerse yourself in the dialogue, visualize what the sets, costumes and props might look like allowing your imagination to fill in the details.
